Welcome back to Autumn 2 term!
During this term we will be exploring poetry and having a go at writing a variety of different styled poems. We will be reading the book Emily's legs in the majority of our reading lessons. We will be continuing to use VIPERS to understand what we have read and become confident in retrieval and inference skills. Using this book as a stimulus, we will also be looking at different types of poetry. Alongside this, we will also continue to look at some of the Year 2 punctuation and grammar, such as different sentence types, word classes (noun, adjective, verb and adverb) and extending our sentences using conjunctions (so, and, but, or, because).
Maths: We will be focusing on addition and subtraction this half term, building on what children have learnt in Year 1. The children we be learning how to add and subtract using their knowledge of partitioning (ten and ones) and how to use pictorial representations to help them. We will also be looking at word and missing number problems to help us with our reasoning and problem solving. Towards the end of the term, we will be focusing on using and understanding money. Each Friday, we will also practise our arithmetic skills and our times tables.
Science: We will be focusing on living things and their habitats, learning about different habitats around the world and food webs. We will be consolidating learning from Year 1, looking at where we can live and how animals adapt to their environment. We look forward to lots of practical learning around our school.
Special Studies: Our topic for this term is Muck, Mess and Mixtures. This is an exciting topic where we will dive in to explore a wide variety of messy mixtures. As part of our topic, we will pour, mix stir and splat to investigate how these mixtures make such wonderful things. We will play with liquids, squish some dough and check out the slushiest and mushiest foods. We will then use this to create recipes, riddles, and poems based on our experiences with the weird and wonderful.
