Music

At St.Matthew's we value music highly, and ensure all our children gain access to many musical activities and experiences.

We have a thriving school choir, made up of Years 4 to 6 , open to any child who enjoys singing together. We take part in many concerts, musical celebrations, Religious celebrations, and Christmas events , singing our hearts out at concerts , to audiences at Asda, The Rylands Care home, Telford town Centre and anywhere else who will have us! The highlight of our year is singing with thousands of other Primary School Children at Young Voices' at the Genting Arena in Birmingham. This is always such a wonderful experience for the choir.

We enjoy taking the Ukulele band with us to accompany our singing , led by the wonderful Mrs Skitt and Mrs Clark!

Every year we enter the Recorder Festival in Stoke and last year were lucky enough to be centre stage!

Recorder Festival backing tracks are below, which our children work hard on , practising at every opportunity.

Every Key Stage 2 pupil has the opportunity to learn to play the Ukulele and we are now very skilled at playing together.

Across the classes we follow Charanga Music with Mrs Skitt, which develops the children's musical appreciation, their musical awareness, and abilities to compose and create together.

Every year we perform at the Telford School's Music Celebration Concert at TPS with many other Primary Schools , last year we astounded the audience with our rendition of Beautiful by Jess Glynne.

Celebration Concert 2019

The last few years we have had an incredibly talented school band named 'Starsome' made up of Year 5 and 6 pupils who had exceptional talents for composition, vocals and performance. The band was made up of vocalist, drums, keyboard and guitar . They regularly composed their own music, some of the tracks you will hear below.

We were also fortunate to have been invited to perform one of our original songs along with Beyonce's Running at a Secondary Concert at Ercall Wood Academy , Telford, where we stunned the audience with our performance below.

The highlight of the year was entering 'Telford's Got Talent' , getting through to the final which we were so very proud of and gaining some excellent comments from the judges! We will really miss our band, however we are more than sure we will hear of them doing great things in the future. Just before they left us we awarded them with the 'Inspiring the next generation' award for everything they've achieved at St.Matthew's and for giving others the belief that anyone can achieve their dreams.
