Football Tournament 26.9.17

On Thursday 26th Septmeber 2017, St Matthews entered the first tournament of the year. There were some excellent teams who we had to play against and we spent much of the games defending in our own half. The boys we outstanding and showed real team spirit in each and every match. A special mention to our goalkeeper who produced some outstanding, match winning saves. The defence battled hard, making some crunching tackles and brave headers to keep the opposition at bay. Our midfield and strikers ran tirelessly with no reward for some silky passing and dribbling. And when we did trouble the opposition goalkeeper, we were denied by some excellent goalkeeping. Overall, it was a positive experience for a team who had only trained once together before the tournament. Across all 4 matches, we learned valuable skills and our positional play improved game by game. I would like to add a special mention to the staff and parents who supported the boys throughout the evening.

The results are as follows:

Windmill 1 - St Matthews 1

Aqueduct 0 - St Matthews 0

St Matthews 0 - Lawley 4

St Matthews 0 - Apley Wood 1

The team played 4 games across the evening, finishing in 4th in their group with 2 draws and 2 loses. However, by finishing 4th place we have qualified for the Plate competition later in the season. Dates will be confirmed closer to the competition.

Thank you for all your support and hard work boys.
