Welcome to the information page for Year 3/4

Welcome to Year 3 and 4! Your child is in for an exciting year full of fun, discovery, and new learning adventures. These pages will keep you updated with all the key information you will need to support their journey and stay connected with what is happening in their class.

Our class is named after Saint Sophia

Did you know...?

  • Saint Sophia had three  daughters called Hope, Faith and Charity.
  • She is a martyr which means she died for her beliefs.
  • Sophia is known for teaching and speaking the truth even when it results in the death of her own family.
  • St Sophia demonstrates our school's core values, Respect, Responsibility, resilience.

Attendance

Good attendance is key to your child's routine, learning, progress and well-being. Please ensure that your child is  in class everyday and is ready to learn for 8.50am. Children will finish school at 3:20pm where they will be collected from their classroom gate.

Reading

At St Matthew's, we encourage every child to read at home to an adult at least 3 times a week. We ask for home reading to be signed by an adult in their reading journals either after each read, or at the end of the week. If a child reads independently, they may also record this in their reading journal. This can include any books they have read either from home or school. Each week, a certificate will be given to a child in each class to celebrate the ‘Reader Of The Week!’.

Homework

Homework is given out every Friday and should be returned by the following Friday. If your child requires any support with their homework, please do not hesitate to email us as we will ensure they receive help with the activities set.

Spellings

Spellings are given out every Friday and the children will be tested on these spellings the following Friday. We encourage children to practise spellings at home either in their homework book or on Spelling Shed (KS2). Logins for Spelling Shed can be found in the children’s homework books.

PE

The children will have two lessons of PE each week. One session will be in an indoor PE lesson and one will be an outdoor PE lesson. Please refer to the email sent to parents at the start of the year informing you of what days your child has PE. If your child’s PE day changes for a specific event, then an email or text message will be sent out informing you of the changes. Please ensure your child comes to school in appropriate PE kit (further information can be found in the uniform policy).

Water

We encourage our children to stay hydrated throughout the day and welcome water bottles to be brought in. Please ensure the bottle is labelled with their name/initials and only contains water.

Online Resources

All children have been given usernames and passwords for Oxford Owl, Times Tables Rockstars and Spelling Shed (see links below). Children are encouraged to access these regularly at home to assist with their learning.
