Our learning this half term will focus around our Geography unit 'Sow, Grow and Farm.'

Reading and Writing

Our new narrative linked to our science topic 'Earth and beyond' will be the young readers Usbourne book 'The War of the Worlds based on the novel  by H.G. Wells.

This story has inspired us to write our own newspaper articles all about the merciless Martians that have come to take over the Earth!

Maths

This half term we will be studying fractions including converting mixed numbers into improper fractions and improper fractions into mixed numbers. We will also move onto Geometry, identifying parallel and perpendicular lines and identifying angles around a point and on a straight line.

Design Technology

In our DT lessons, we have loved studying food technology and enjoyed designing our own seasonal festive soup recipes for a target audience of our choice. We analysed how we could 'Sow, Grow and Farm' and how to ensure our soups met our design criteria. We incorporated ingredients from a range of different food groups to encourage a balanced diet.

We also studied the importance of health and safety in the kitchen and made sure that we were working in a hygienic way. When preparing our ingredients, we learnt two new cooking techniques called ‘the claw’ and ‘the bridge.’ This helped us to chop safely and efficiently.

We were really impressed with our final products. We thought they were delicious!

Religious Education

In RE we will be exploring what a Saint is. This will include: knowing what the term Saint means, use quotes from relevant scripture about followers of Christ, reflect on why particular Saints were canonised, identifying modern day saints and discovering how we can be more 'saintly'.
