Autumn Term 2
Autumn 2: Good Food, Fresh Food
We welcome Mrs Barfield back to school this half term. Ms Solomon will remain with us on a Monday as Mrs Barfield returns to school on a phased return working Tuesday-Friday.
This term, we are going to be focussing on our Design and Technology unit which is called Good Food, Fresh Food. The children will have lots of opportunities to learn about healthy and fresh snacks looking at how packaging can keep our food fresh and what different methods can be used to maintain the freshness of fresh produce. We will begin with our memorable experience which will be a tasting activity where the children will have to taste each snack and predict which one they think is the most and least healthiest and explain their reasoning. They will also be developing their own healthy food snack and evaluating their products afterwards.
The picture below will take you to some great quick and healthy recipes that could be made for the whole family.
In Maths, we will be focussing on our place value skills again and recapping multiplying and dividing by 10, 100 and 1000. We will also concentrate on developing our knowledge of the formal written column method for addition and subtraction before applying this knowledge to more complex skills such as reasoning and problem-solving questions. Children are continuing to practice their multiplication skills so if they can practice as much as possible at home either in their homework books or on TTRockstars that would be greatly appreciated. Our reading book will continue focussing on The Indian in the Cupboard which the children are absolutely loving and is a firm favourite in our classroom. We will continue to join Omri on his adventures and find out what happens to the Indian (and Boone!) in the cupboard. Our reading lessons will focus on the Reading Vipers, which you can see below.

English writing will be focusing on a character description from 'The Indian in the Cupboard'. They will also be learning about information texts so that they can write an information text on how to stay healthy linking in with our DT topic throughout. We also have an exciting poetry unit to jump into too!
In Science, we will be exploring life cycles. These will include: mammals (monotremes, placentals and marsupial), birds, insects and amphibians. We will be comparing and analysing them.
In RE, we will be building on our previous learning in year three about the concept of Trinity and what this means. Using a range of different videos, bible stories and parables, the children will learn the key three concepts of the Holy Trinity: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit and be digging deeper. Click the picture below to watch a video explaining the term Trinity.
In PE, we will be continuing with out PE days of Monday and Thursday. Monday’s PE lessons will concentrate on Karate skills and Thursday’s PE sessions will focus on basketball skills, learning how to pass and move around the pitch correctly before learning how to have a game and practise shooting.
