Autumn Term 2
Autumn 2 - Good Food, Fresh Food
This term, we are going to be focussing on our Design and Technology unit which is called Good Food, Fresh Food. The children will have lots of opportunities to learn about healthy and fresh snacks looking at how packaging can keep our food fresh and what different methods can be used to maintain the freshness of fresh produce. We will begin with our memorable experience which will be a tasting activity where the children will have to taste each snack and predict which one they think is the most and least healthiest and explain their reasoning. They will also be developing their own healthy food snack and evaluating their products afterwards.
In Maths, we will be focussing on applying our knowledge from Autumn 1 into different contexts, including calculating the area of shapes, looking at the different types of angles and adding and subtracting amounts of money. We will continue to focus on our tables tables and the children can compete against their friends by gaining points through the completion of activities on TTRockstars.
Our reading book will continue focussing on The Indian in the Cupboard which the children are absolutely loving and is a firm favourite in our classroom. We will continue to join Omri on his adventures and find out what happens to the Indian (and Boone!) in the cupboard. Our reading lessons will focus on the Reading Vipers, which you can see below.

English writing will be focusing on describing a key character from 'The Indian in the Cupboard' story, by writing a detailed character description. We also have an exciting poetry unit to jump into too!
In Science, we will be exploring life cycles. These will include: mammals (monotremes, placentals and marsupial), birds, insects and amphibians. We will be comparing and analysing them.
In RE, we will be building on our previous learning in year three about the concept of Trinity and what this means. Using a range of different videos, bible stories and parables, the children will learn the key three concepts of the Holy Trinity: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit and be digging deeper.
We will be continuing with our PE days of Monday and Thursday. In PE, we will be focussing on basketball skills, learning how to dribble correctly and pass accurately, before applying these skills to a game-like situation.
