Reception/Year 1 – Saint Teresa

Welcome to R1LE Class page!

I am so excited to be your Class Teacher and have a wonderful year together. We will be joined by our Teaching Assistants; Mrs Urey, Miss Urey and Mrs Shah.

Our Class Saint is Saint Teresa. Mother Teresa was born in North Macedonia on 26th August 1910. When she was born, she was named Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu. Just like her family, Agnes was very religious and she wanted to help people. In 1973, Sister Teresa made a promise to God and the Church. She promised that she would spend her life trying to help poor people and doing God’s work. In 2016, Pope Francis said that Mother Teresa was to become a saint.

At St Matthews we have a real love of reading, and this is celebrated in our Class also. We encourage children to read at home and record this in their Reading Journal.

To support us with our Phonics and Reading we follow the Read Write Inc. scheme to teach phonics, below are some useful links for parents.

Over the academic year we will be learning and focusing on a variety of topics. You can see what we have been getting up to in class on each terms page.

Our P.E days will be on a Monday and Wednesday and this year we ask children to come to school in their school P.E kits (Outdoor PE on Monday and Indoor PE on Tuesday). On Wednesday afternoon Reception children will be enjoying Wild Tribe. Children need to be coming to school in old joggers suitable for this and then wellies in a bag (preferably left at school) with school uniform jumper and t-shirt. Please do not forget a warm, waterproof coat too.

If you have any questions, please do let me know,

Miss Edwards.
