Wild Tribe

At St Matthew's we are very fortunate to have extensive woodland and outdoor areas in which to deliver Wild Tribe. This is lead by our Wild Tribe Leader Miss Booles.

Wild Tribe

Our ‘Wild Tribe’ sessions allow our learners the time and space to develop skills, interests and understanding through the practical hands on experiences to explore these areas around school. Wild Tribe has been developed based on the principles of Forest School but links much more with the National Curriculum.

Wild Tribe is an inspiring learning opportunity that provides children with the opportunity to learn about the natural world and participate in a variety of outdoor activities.

We aim to enable and develop each individual child according to their needs; addressing educational, emotional, spiritual and physical aspects of learning. We teach skills and develop confidence in an enjoyable and relaxed way. Our outdoor learning sessions develop independence through peer learning, with the adults providing support and facilitating activities. We aim to encourage children to take on new challenges, take risks and persevere with difficulties.

Each week Nursery and Reception go outside whatever the weather, with Miss Booles and other members of the EYFS team to spend time in our wooded area building on learning week to week. Within their Wild Tribe sessions children will learn new skills, work as part of a team, and grow as individuals through taking part in activities such as using tools, cooking outdoors and building shelters.

Children who participate in Wild Tribe will:

  • Have better co-operation communication skills and social skills
  • Have improved motivation and concentration
  • Have increased confidence and self esteem
  • Learn a variety of outdoor skills including the use of tools and fire lighting.

Here are just a few pictures from our fantastic Wild Tribe sessions here at St Matthew's.
