Our learning this half term will all be focused around our topic 'A child's war.' This is a History unit in which we will learn about the cause and effect of the Second World War, significant events and people and develop our empathy for what it was like to be a child at the time.
A siren sounds, a building crumbles, and a Spitfire zooms overhead. Take cover! It’s 1939 and Britain is at war. Deep down in the Anderson shelter, learn why nations are fighting and why child evacuees must make the long journey from their homes and family to unknown territory.
Reading and Writing- This half term we will be reading the book 'Goodnight Mr Tom' by Michelle Magorian. We are looking forward to studying a book by a famous English author who won the 1982 Guardian Prize for her book. It has now been adapted several times for the screen and on stage. This is one of Miss Wilson's and Mrs Davies' favourite books so we can't wait to read it with them!
We will be using our knowledge of WW2 to write some emotive letter and diary entries from the viewpoint of evacuees and soldiers during such a difficult time.
Our WW2 history workshop
We are also very excited to take part in our very own WW2 History Workshop with Humph's Histories. We will share with you lots of the photo's and activities we took part in during the day.
