It has been such a busy Summer Term and we can't believe it's the final part of our journey in Year 5 and Year 6.
Here are some of our highlights...
Reading the book Treason by Berlie Doherty.
Will Montague is a page to Prince Edward, son of King Henry VIII. As the King's favourite, Will gains many enemies in Court. His enemies convince the King that Will's father has committed treason and he is thrown into Newgate Prison.
Will flees Hampton Court and goes into hiding in the back streets of London. Lost and in mortal danger, he is rescued by a poor boy, Nick Drew. Together they must brave imprisonment and death as they embark on a great adventure to set Will's father free.
Making honeycomb in Science
To celebrate British Science week, we decided to investigate what gave honeycomb such a bubbly, airy texture. We observed several chemical processes as we made the honeycomb and learnt that bicarbonate of soda, is used in baking as a raising agent. Raising agents cause bubbles of gas to form within a mixture.
As our baking powder was exposed to heat, it broke down and released carbon dioxide. This chemical reaction caused the bubbles to form, making a foam. As the foam cooled, it changed state from a liquid to a solid, trapping the bubbles and creating the airy and light honeycomb texture.
