Nursery – Saint Matthew

Saint Matthew

Saint Matthew is named in the New Testament as one of the twelve apostles of Jesus. According to Christian traditions, he was also one of the four Evangelists as author of the Gospel of Matthew, and thus is also known as Matthew the Evangelist.

Matthew was a tax collector and is therefore the patron saint of bankers. The Church established St. Matthew's feast day as September 21.

St. Matthew Prayer

"O Glorious St. Matthew, in your Gospel you portray Jesus as the longed-for Messiah who fulfilled the Prophets of the Old Covenant and as the new Lawgiver who founded a Church of the New Covenant.
Obtain for us the grace to see Jesus living in his Church and to follow his teachings in our lives on earth so that we may live forever with him in heaven.

Welcome to Nursery! We are named after the Saint, St Matthew.

In Nursery we have such a great time learning through play. We enjoy learning through our play doing lots of different activities with Miss Booles and Mrs Phillips both inside and outside.

Miss Booles loves mark making everywhere and writing different messages with everyone and Mrs Phillips loves being in the creative area, making all sorts of creations including robots!

Here are some pictures of inside Nursery! We have lots of defined areas for the children to access and explore both independently and with support and guidance from an adult.

We are so lucky to have a large outside space that is also undercover so we can access the outside no matter what the weather! Here are some pictures of our outside space:

We will keep this page updated with all the different aspects of Nursery life.

Early Years children take part in weekly Wild Tribe sessions led by Miss Booles who is a fully trained Wild Tribe practitioner. Within these sessions the children learn about nature, explore the great outdoors, use tools, enjoy fires and climb trees amongst many other fun activities.

In Maths, we use White Rose Maths to help us to recognise numerals, subitise and count. We love finding out all about numbers and using them in different ways within the environment.

We use the phonics scheme Read Write inc to teach the children their sounds, you can find out more about phonics by clicking on the picture below.
