This half term our themes are 'Winter Wonderland', 'All around the World' and 'Once upon a time'. We will be finding out all about Winter and the polar regions. We will then go onto think about Chinese New Year and different areas around the world. The children will finish the half term by looking at different traditional tales.
Our core books this half term are:
Wild Tribe continues this half term. Please make sure they wrap up warm and wear layers to keep warm when we're outside in the woods. These will be held on WEDNESDAYS in the woods on our school grounds! During our sessions we will be exploring the area, finding out about Winter and we will be taking part in the Big Schools Birdwatch!
Our Library sessions will take place on a FRIDAY. Please ensure books and reading diaries are brought in on a Friday so that books can be changed. These books are to share at home and will help to foster a love of reading!
Things you could do when sharing books with your at home:
- Ask questions such as: ‘What can you see on this page?’ ‘How do you think the characters feel?’
- Try asking your child to tell the story. They can ‘read’ the pictures to you and talk about what’s happening on the page.
- If you feel comfortable, try making funny faces or using character voices – these always make children giggle!
- Talk about what they can see in the pictures. Can they find different objects that you ask them to?
Please check the weekly homework sheet every Friday to read what your child has been doing during the week and see the ideas to help your child further at home. If you have any questions about the homework please don't hesitate to get in touch.
Our class bears will be continue to come home at the weekend with different children. This will be on a rota and children will all get an opportunity to take at least one of them home over the year! They will come home in their very own bag, along with a game and their diary where you can write, draw or add photos of their adventures at your home.
