Uniform & PE Kit

The Governing Body of St Matthew’s CE (Aided) Primary School and Nursery Centre has agreed that school uniform should be worn at all times in both School and Nursery and should consist of:

  • School Logo sweatshirt or cardigan in navy blue.

  • Plain navy sweatshirt or cardigan.

  • Grey/black or navy trousers.

  • Grey/black or navy pinafore dress or skirt.

  • Blue/white shirt or polo shirt.

  • Blue gingham dresses.

  • White/grey/black or navy socks or tights

  • Black shoes.

As a school we take great pride in the corporate image of St Matthew’s and our togetherness as a ‘unit of one’.  To this end we have specifically designed accessories to support and enhance our ‘basic’ school uniform. Examples of this collaboration are bespoke reading and PE bags with separate designs for Nursery and KS1 and KS2 pupils.  These bags are extremely durable and weatherproof, providing excellent protection for our children’s books and PE kit. We also have designer school ties, caps, bob hats, T-shirts, polo

shirts and school coats.  All our items of uniform represent excellent quality and best value.

These items of clothing are required for every PE lesson:

    Indoor Lessons

    White t-shirt

    Black or navy shorts

    Outdoor Lessons in Summer

    White t-shirt

    Black or navy shorts

    Suitable outdoor trainers or pumps

    Outdoor Lessons in Winter

    White t-shirt

    Black or navy tracksuit bottoms

    Black or navy jumper

    Suitable outdoor trainers or pumps

We now have available St Matthew’s Physical and Creative Education hooded, sweat-tops for purchase from school.  These tops can be worn by any of the children as a lightweight alternative to our school coats. They are not a replacement to our school sweatshirts, which will continue to be our main item of school clothing. These hooded tops bear a specially designed logo which reflects our status as an outstanding school for PE, Games, Sports, Dance and Creative Arts.

If a child’s kit is forgotten regularly, you will be notified by letter or telephone.  Please ensure that all items of clothing are clearly labelled with your child’s name to ensure they can be returned to you if misplaced.  Children with long hair must have it tied back for PE lessons to prevent accidents and all children must remove any jewellery before participation; earrings should be taped over or removed if possible.

We strongly recommend, on safety grounds, that anyone with earrings must remove or cover them for PE.  Obviously, for the first six weeks after ears have been pierced studs may be kept in at all times.

A comprehensive price list is available from our School’s Administrative Centre.  New families with children entering our School and/or Nursery Centre are offered a range of discounts, including combination packages to promote our unity from the outset.
